Birth Control

About Yaz/Yasmin/Ocella

Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella are all similar birth control pills, which contain drospirenone, a synthetic form of progestin, which works in combination with ethinyl estradiol (estrogen) to prevent pregnancy. Drospirenone is not contained in other forms of birth control and is believed to be the major cause of side effects from Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella. Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Inc. manufactures Yaz and Yasmin. Ocella, the generic version of Yasmin, is also manufactured by Bayer and is then packaged and sold by Teva Pharmaceutical.

Side Effects of Yaz and Yasmin

Women that have taken Yaz or Yasmin have experienced various side effects associated with use of the drug. Side effects may include: strokes, blood clots gallbladder disease, pancreatitis, heart attack, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary embolism (PE).

Yaz and Yasmin Lawsuits

The Robichaux Law Firm is currently accepting Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella cases nationwide. Lawsuits are currently being filed against the manufacturer of Yaz and Yasmin. These lawsuits are primarily based on the fact that the manufacturer failed to adequately warn of the high risk of using these oral contraceptives and on the fact that safer alternatives to these drugs exist. While some state court cases have been filed, the Judicial Panel on Multi-District Litigation has centralized all federal court cases involving Yaz/Yasmin/Ocella in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, MDL No. 2100.
